Q. Who founded the organization?
A. Major Gene Briseno is the founder. He started with a group of at-risk students in 1991 and received a grant in 1997 through LINC Caring Communities (Local Investment Commission).
Q. Why was it founded?
A. It was created to increase graduation rates through improved attendance, academic achievement and character development.
Q. How does this organization help the community?
A. Students do minor home repair and paint homes for the elderly, disabled and those in need. The Cadet Club also provides and installs smoke alarms.
Q. How has the Cadet Club been recognized and celebrated in the community?
A. Cadets have been featured in the Kansas City Star, on all major news networks and honored by the Historic Kansas City Foundation at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center.
Q. What is the Cadet Club’s most recent project?
A. Cadets recently converted a 2-car garage into three bedrooms for a family who adopted five children and were at risk of losing them because of state-mandated living requirements.
